What Is a Mini-Split?
A mini-split (also called a ductless system) is a two-part AC unit: a small indoor air handler mounted on the wall, and a compact outdoor compressor. The two connect through a small hole in the wall — no ductwork, no major construction.
Mini-splits cool and heat with exceptional efficiency. Because there's no ductwork to lose energy through, they're often 25–40% more efficient than window units or extending your central AC into a new space.
We size every mini-split using the same Manual J load calculation process we use for full system replacements — because an oversized mini-split is just as problematic as an undersized one.
